Greg McVey to Step Down Following 2015 Season
(Hannibal, MO) Hannibal Cavemen General Manager and Field Manager Greg McVey has announced that upon the conclusion of the 2015 Prospect League season he will be stepping down to begin a new career as Athletic Director at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, MO.
McVey took over the day-to-day operations of the Cavemen on December 1, 2014, and the team's leadership will continue uninterrupted in 2015 under the guidance of McVey. Deron Johnson, Director of Marketing and Operations, and Debbie Walden, Director of Community Outreach, complete the front office team.
"It is full steam ahead for 2015," McVey said. "We will continue to have positive momentum moving forward." He added, "This was a very difficult decision to make. I am very happy and excited about the 2015 Cavemen but the opportunity at Jefferson College made sense for my family and my career. I look forward to leading the Cavemen to an outstanding season in 2015."
Johnson is in his third season as part of the Cavemen organization, having done some broadcasting duties in 2013 before being named the Director of Marketing last season and being promoted to Director of Marketing and Operations in 2015. "The enthusiasm Greg McVey has brought into the organization is a breath of fresh air," Johnson said. "We are thrilled to have him this season." Johnson added: "This organization is solid. We are committed to bringing top notch entertainment to the fans. You will notice a lot of changes at Clemens Field this season. We will make sure the transition beyond 2015 is seamless."
Walden has been involved since the inaugural 2009 season as a host family and now has assumed the Director of Community Outreach position this season. "The Cavemen organization will truly miss Greg McVey after the 2015 season," Walden said. "Working with him on a daily basis shows how big of a heart he already has for the Cavemen. We are all excited about where his career is taking him and his family. As far as now, all of us are committed to having a victorious 2015!"
The Cavemen open the season in Springfield, IL, on May 27. The first home game is Saturday, May 30, against the Terre-Haute Rex. Home games will begin at 6:35 p.m. this season with gates opening at 5:35 p.m. each night.
